You want to know why? Because this book has everything that will keep anyone, whether a reader or movie-goer, hooked: action, suspense, drama, unpredictability, emotion, romance, and great characterization. You know what it is? An adventure, plain and simple. The world-building is not the main focus here; the characters and their emotions are in the spotlight while the adventure of the story acts as the plot.
And what an adventure it is. Rather, the term dystopian fantasy fits Blood Red Road just right since the world of the story is much easier to imagine in fantasy terms than realistic ones. The heroine, Saba, honestly takes a bit of time to warm up towards. Honestly, I loved all the characters and every little piece and tidbit about them. Emmi, for being a little sister character, was not a whiny little brat; instead, she was a hard-working and loyal girl, a smaller version of Saba, just much more innocent and child-like.
I really look forward to what happens in the sequels; I suspect that Moira Young will keep surprising and amazing me in equal doses.
