Early life[ edit ] Livermore was born in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts , to a poverty-stricken family and moved to Acton, Massachusetts , as a child. At the age of 16, he quit his job and began trading full-time. He then moved to St. Louis , where he made bets at bucket shops.
